What "PHC-compliant" actually means
"PHC-compliant" is shorthand for "aligned with the Punjab Healthcare Commission's Minimum Service Delivery Standards." - Audit trail. Can you show every change to a patient record, with user, timestamp, and reason?
- Access control. Are users on least-privilege roles? Is there 2FA? Is the system locked to your facility's network when needed?
- Report delivery. Can you show how a report was delivered (printed, emailed, SMS, WhatsApp) and when?
Five capabilities to require from your vendor
When you evaluate a healthcare software vendor in Pakistan, ask whether each of these is built in, available, or "we can add it." Anything in the third category is a red flag.
1. Direct LIS interfacing with your analyzers
If your software doesn't interface directly with your hematology analyzer and other lab machines, your staff is re-keying results. That's a manual error vector, a delay, and a PHC weak point. Demand direct interfacing over Serial, USB, or LAN — not just a CSV import.
2. Two-step result approval with timestamps
The "save, then approve" workflow is the single biggest PHC compliance win. It also protects your pathologist from signing off on something they didn't actually review. The system must capture the identity of both the technologist and the approver, plus the timestamps.
3. Internal QC module
QC isn't optional. The right software schedules QC runs per analyte, plots Levey-Jennings charts, applies Westgard rules, blocks release of patient results when QC fails, and produces the report PHC inspectors want to see.
4. Critical-value notifications that can't be skipped
When a result crosses the critical threshold, the system should require the technologist or pathologist to confirm that the doctor and patient have been notified — and log who they notified, when, and how. This is the audit trail PHC cares about.
5. Complete audit logs, exportable as PDF
Every record change has a user, a timestamp, and a reason. The system should let you export the audit log for a specific record or date range as a PDF, so you can hand it to the inspector without IT involvement.
